Here are three definitions of “habit”:
1. A recurrent, often unconscious pattern of behavior that is acquired through frequent repetition.
2. An established disposition of the mind or character.
3. Customary manner or practice.

The Bible addresses the need for a habit that we should all have. The best passage that I can find to describe this habit is Hebrews 10:23-25, which states:

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

The context indicates a link between holding fast the confession of our hope without waveringand not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together (making a habit of meeting with God’s people). It appears that regularly worshipping with the “body” (I Cor. 12:27) helps us hold fast our confession.

It also gives us an opportunity to consider one another, or think about the needs of those in the body, for the purpose of stirring up love and good works. The KJV uses the word “provoke” in the place of “stir up”. Here is Strong’s definition of this word: paroxysmós, par-ox-oos-mos’; from G3947 (“paroxysm”); incitement (to good), or dispute (in anger):—contention, provoke unto. We all need this for sure!

This “provoking” is done as we see the Day approaching, that is, the second coming of Christ. Heb. 3:12-13 underscores the need for this encouragement in our walk, lest any are hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Both Jesus and Paul had this as their “custom” (Luke 4:16; Acts 17:2). Yes, we do not always “feel like going”, but our feelings get us into trouble, especially when they contradict God’s Word. May we each, as much as physically possible, cultivate this wonderful habit of meeting regularly with God’s people! We will be glad we did.

For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God Than dwell in the tents of wickedness. Psalm 84:10
