Moses was at a low point. He had followed the Lord’s instruction and gone with Aaron to give Pharaoh the message from the Lord:

Let My people go, that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness. (Ex. 5:1) The results were dismal. (see Ex. 5) Pharaoh called the Israelites lazy and made them work extra hard by getting straw themselves to make the bricks. The officers of the children found out from Pharaoh that this cruel treatment was the result of Moses and Aaron speaking with Pharaoh. Thus, they brought a scathing rebuke to Moses and Aaron. Then Moses questioned and blamed the Lord. So Moses returned to the LORD and said, “Lord, why have You brought trouble on this people? Why is it You have sent me? For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done evil to this people; neither have You delivered Your people at all.” (Ex. 5:22-23)

The Lord reminded Moses of who He is and what He had promised (6:1-8). Furthermore, He told him what would happen:

See, I have made you [as] God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet. You shall speak all that I command you. And Aaron your brother shall tell Pharaoh to send the children of Israel out of his land. And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt. But Pharaoh will not heed you, so that I may lay My hand on Egypt and bring My armies and My people, the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the children of Israel from among them. (Ex. 7:1-5)

The response of Moses and Aaron is tremendous: “Then Moses and Aaron did so; just as the LORD commanded them, so they did.” (Ex. 7:6) By God’s grace, may we do the same.
